Top notable trophy wins of Arsenal

1929/30 FA Cup final – Huddersfield Town, 2-0

In their inaugural game at Wembley in 1930, Alex James and Jack Lambert scored goals to help Arsenal win their first major prize in history. Additionally, it marked the first occasion that the BBC had ever purchased the license to broadcast a game.

Three years prior, the Gunners' first final against Cardiff City ended in a dismal 1-0 loss for them. They had the opportunity to make amends during the game, with legendary manager Herbert Chapman in charge. Tom Parker led the team to victory and helped Arsenal win the record number of 14 FA Cups they now hold.

1970/71 FA Cup final – Liverpool, 2-1

Arsenal won the 1971 championship in thrilling fashion, defeating Liverpool in overtime after falling behind. After winning the championship at White Hart Lane, the Gunners were attempting to win both the league and the cup. But in order to do that, they had to defeat Liverpool in front of 100,000 spectators.

The score remained 0-0 after 90 minutes as neither team could gain control of the game. Yet, during extra time, Liverpool immediately took the lead, and Bob Wilson's intervention nearly made it 2-0. Fortunately,  Eddie Kelly's equalizer saved the Gunners. He scored in the FA Cup final for the first time ever as a substitute.

With a few minutes remaining, Charlie George added a second goal, and he celebrated by lying on his back in the traditional manner. Arsenal finished their season with two victories, and both sets of supporters applauded them as they left the field. This is considered one of the most impressive trophies in Arsenal trophies history.

1978/79 FA Cup final – Manchester United, 3-2

Arsenal’s first match at Wembley against Manchester United contained even more late drama. Thanks to goals from Brian Talbot and Frank Stapleton early in the game, the Gunners led 2-0 into the final five minutes of the ninety minutes.

Gordon McQueen's goal in the 86th minute and Sammy McIlroy's goal in the 88th minute gave United the lead back.

Alan Sunderland scored in the 89th minute to give Arsenal the cup victory just as it appeared that the game would go to overtime. The contest is now more frequently referred to as the "five minute final."

2013/14 FA Cup final – Hull City, 3-2

Arsenal overcame a 2-0 lead to win the first cup final at the brand-new Wembley, ending a nine-year trophy drought. The Gunners had gone year after year without winning anything, despite a number of strong squads, with a Champions League final defeat and a series of title attempts that failed.

At the brand-new national stadium during that time, Arsenal dropped both of its games. Thankfully, the Gunners beat Wigan Athletic on penalties to snap their losing streak. They have to win against the underdog Hull City in order to break the drought.

The team crumbled  in the first 10 minutes when it should have been a walkover. Hull quickly took a 2-0 lead and, in all honesty, should have been three up before Arsenal realized there was still time for the game. Prior to Laurent Koscielny tying the score in the second half, Santi Cazorla's free kick had restarted the match.

Aaron Ramsey's goal in overtime gave the team, manager, and supporters cause for celebrations that mixed joy with relieved relief.

2016/17 FA Cup final – Chelsea, 2-1

A few years later, Arsenal made a comeback under completely new conditions. The Premier League winners and rivals of London, Chelsea, were the opponents this time, and the Gunners were the underdogs. Every pundit and expert around seemed to believe the Blues would win the game by default.

Instead, Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal an unexpected lead Diego Costa helped Chelsea respond in the second half, but Aaron Ramsey was there again to retake the advantage. The Gunners' defense were the real heroes. After Laurent Koscielny's self-imposed suspension the previous week, Nacho Monreal, Per Mertesacker, and Rob Holding were forced to work together as an improvised back three.

The trio performed admirably, putting up a fight and working hard to neutralize their opponents. To eventually overcome their resistance, Costa needed a deflection, but even that wasn't sufficient.

Arsenal fans have followed the team through both great successes and heartbreaking defeats over the past decades. In the present Premier League era, Arsenal will always be regarded as one of the world's greatest and most decorated clubs. Despite their domestic dominance, they have not recently captured a significant European football prize. Hope they bring back more awards to make Arsenal trophies history more diverse.
